She was only two months old when she was found and rescued on Dec. 10\, 2005\, in Mosquito Lagoon\, Florida and taken to Clearwater Marine Aquarium. The crab trap rope cut circulation to her tail flukes\, causing permanent damage\, which eventually led to a deterioration and loss of her tail during rehabilitation. While most dolphins in this situation wouldn’t survive\, Winter adapted and found a new way to swim! The loss of her tail led to the development of degenerative changes in her spine\, such as scoliosis. The team at Clearwater Marine Aquarium worked with the Hanger Clinic to develop a prosthetic tail\, allowing Winter to thrive and inspire millions around the world! \n\n\n\nWinter the Dolphin passed away at 16 years old on Nov. 11\, 2021\, due to a gastrointestinal abnormality. Use your motor skills with hands-on learning games and activities that will teach you about what makes dolphins different from other animals. Practice your listening skills during story time and lessons about our flippered friends. \n\n\n\nAbout Pre-K Pod Pals\n\n\n\nOur turtle\, dolphin\, otter\, shark\, and ray friends will invite children to learn about where they live\, what they eat\, and the characteristics that help them live in the ocean. Programs will include classroom activities that explore the Florida pre-kindergarten standards\, interactive games\, and fun facts about the animal of the month! \n\n\n\nAvailable for children ages 3 to 5. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
